Preliminary Work

An Aesthetics Advisory Committee was formed in 2007 and met over a six-month period to review various aesthetic elements and provide input regarding the design of the MoPac Improvement Project. The committee included neighborhood and community representatives who expressed the values and identities of the neighborhoods along the MoPac corridor and advised project developers on the look and feel of sound walls, landscaping, lighting, signs and color and design. Their initial report can be downloaded here.

Context Sensitive Design Advisory Committee

Building on this earlier work, the MoPac Improvement Project team is used a Context Sensitive Design process to assist in development of design components that reflect the community's vision for the project. The Context Sensitive Design Advisory Committee included members from the original 2007 committee, as well as additional representatives from neighborhoods along the corridor. With input from the committee, major project design components were conceptualized, including bridges, retaining walls and sound walls, along with landscape treatments, hardscapes and possibly signature design elements to unify the look and feel of the corridor. The general public was also been invited to share their opinions regarding the design of the project during the environmental study process.

Open House Meeting Held

An open house meeting was held on May 26, 2011 to share information with the public about the Context Sensitive Design effort. In addition to a preliminary Context Sensitive Design analysis, two prelminary design concepts were shared with the public and feedback was solicited. Click on the images below to view the concepts.

Following the open house a final Context Sensitive Design Advisory Committee meeting was held to review the comments and to select the preferred concept. Concept A was selected. The project team will use feedback from the open houses and the Committee to finalize the concept and develop a design guide for construction.
